BEDMINSTER, NJ — Verizon Wireless, owner and operator of the nation’s most reliable wireless network, announced today that a federal judge in Trenton, New Jersey issued one of the strongest rulings yet to protect customer privacy – a preliminary injunction against the current and former owners of the notorious Web site LocateCell.com – Data Find Solutions, First Source Information Specialists and related companies – and other affiliated Web sites. The injunction, significantly stronger than other recent court actions, took effect yesterday and prohibits locatecell.com and related sites from:

  • Attempting to obtain information on Verizon Wireless customers;
  • Contacting Verizon Wireless for any reason;
  • Providing any information on Verizon Wireless customers to any third parties;
  • Advertising on any Web site that they can obtain information on Verizon Wireless customers; and
  • Operating any Web site that may obtain any information on Verizon Wireless customers.

In addition, the companies in question must deliver to the court within 10 days all data or information they may have related to Verizon Wireless customers.

Michael Holden, attorney for Verizon Wireless, said “This ruling puts an end to these defendants’ attempts to steal our customers’ private information. We built a strong case and achieved a swift and sure remedy to protect our customers’ information. This is an important victory for not just Verizon Wireless customers, but for customers of all wireless companies.”

The injunction was filed against Data Find Solutions, Inc. and one of the company’s principals, James Kester, both of Knoxville, TN; First Source Information Specialists, 1st Source Information Specialists and principal Steven Schwartz, all of Tamarac, FL; plus Kenneth W. Gorman of Jensen Beach, FL, and a principal of First Source and 1st Source. The defendants are current or former owners of the notorious Web sites www.locatecell.com, www.celltolls.com, www.datafind.org and www.peoplesearchamerica.com. In its lawsuit filed last week, Verizon Wireless claimed these companies had fraudulently attempted to obtain customer records by calling Verizon Wireless customer service centers posing as Verizon Wireless employees needing access to confidential customer information.

Verizon Wireless has a strong record of aggressively protecting customer privacy that has put it at the forefront of the U.S. wireless industry.
